Thank You, Teachers, for Guiding Us with Faith, Wisdom, and Hope
Every October 5, the world stops to recognize its greatest builders. Not of monuments or machines, but of minds and hearts. On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the people who dedicate their lives to forming the next generation.
In CISVA schools, this mission runs deeper than academics. Teaching is a vocation, a response to God’s call to serve others through love, patience, and example.
The Wisdom of the Popes on Education
Pope Francis once said, “Education is one of the most effective ways of making our world more human. It is an act of love and responsibility handed down from one generation to another.”
Those words capture the essence of teaching. Education is not about data or test scores. It is about dignity, compassion, and connection.
He also reminds us that education is a “choral work.” No teacher works alone. They plan, share, and grow together. Within the Catholic Independent Schools of Vancouver Archdiocese (CISVA), that collaboration defines our schools: mentors guiding new teachers, colleagues praying together before class, and staff supporting each other through every challenge.
And in one of his most direct challenges, Pope Francis cautions against turning schools into “achievement factories.” Instead, he calls teachers to form people who can dream, think deeply, and serve others.
Looking Towards the Future
The world our students are entering changes fast. Technology evolves, attention spans shorten, and social pressures grow. Yet amid that change, one constant remains: the teacher’s role as guide and witness.
Our teachers lead students to wisdom, not noise. They teach the value of reflection, curiosity, and kindness in an age of distraction. They help children see that success is not measured by marks, but by how they use their gifts to serve others.
The Vatican’s Declaration on Christian Education said it best: the goal of Catholic education is “the formation of the whole human person, mind, heart, and will.” That mission feels even more urgent today.

Thank you for staying late to prepare lessons that reach every learner. Thank you for turning faith into daily practice through patience and care. Thank you for helping students discover who they are, not just what they can do.
We see your effort. We see your faith. We see the quiet sacrifices you make every day.
Your classrooms are where the future begins, not with noise or fame, but with small, steady acts of love. You show students what integrity looks like, what curiosity feels like, and what it means to live with purpose.
As Pope Francis said, “You cannot educate without love.”
Today, we celebrate that love, and we thank you for living it out in every lesson, every student, and every moment of grace.
